In-Depth Interview
October 3, 1996

Sarah: Have you ever eaten at the Kentucky Fried Chicken on Washington.

Adrian Fure: No.

Sarah: In Marquette.

A. Fure: (he smiles) No, I'm not a big KFC fan.

For the readers, we (Sarah's family) went up to Marquette, Sault Ste. Marie, Barrie, etc. during the summer and ate at that KFC on Washington street.

Sarah: How is hockey different up north than it is here?

A. Fure: Everyone plays hockey and loves it up north, in the Marquette area. I think here kids get more involved playing football and wrestling.

Sarah: Had you ever heard of the Buccaneers, what made you come down here?

A. Fure: No, not really until my Junior year when I was in midgets did I first hear about them. People said I had a chance to play college hockey and they said Des Moines was a great organization, they were good to their players. They are, I love it here. I got drafted by Green Bay and I wasn't sure I wanted to go play for them, being an expansion team. I went to the Compuware Ambassadors team that had just won the championship.

Sarah: What are your duties as a captain?

A. Fure: As a captain I have to be a team leader. Um, I have to be more vocal in the locker room. We have a lot of high schoolers this year and I have to help out those younger players. The veterans, Billy, Mike, Furny (Jason Furness), and I have to really be the team leaders. Coach wants me to be a PR_ _ _.

Sarah: How do they choose a captain?

A. Fure: By team ballot. The team votes on it.

Sarah: Have you always been a defenseman?

Fure: When I was ten we moved to Marquette and I started with a new league. They put me on defense. I've been playing defense since then. I love it. I think it's a harder position to play. You know, coach doesn't really want us to rush up so we have to sit back and help the goalie out. We have to work hard, we can still score though. We have more forwards that can contribute this year for us.

Sarah: What are some of the past teams you've played for?

Fure: I played in Compuware. Of course here the last few years. In Marquette I just played in leagues there. I played for the Marquette Electricians (midget team).

Sarah: Compared to past teams you've played for, how are the fans different here?

Fure: The fans here in Des Moines are great. They are the best in the league, the best fans in the country for that matter. We didn't have any fans in Compuware. There were too many other things to do, and other teams t watch, they had MU, the IHL, and the NHL

Sarah: Besides hockey, what do you like to do?

Fure: I like to hike with my dad in the summer. I like canoeing. I love listening to live music, I think it's one of the best things you can do. I like to read when I have time.

Sarah: How old where you when you started playing?

Fure: Five, I think.

Sarah: What is your favorite pro and/or college team?

Fure: Considering where I'm and what level I'm at I don't have a favorite college team. My favorite pro team is the Red Wings. Even though they've lost every year. My favorite player is Chris Chelios, he plays for Chicago. I admire him for what a great player he is.

Sarah: What are some of your goals for this season?

Fure: Well our goals for the team are obviously to win all three cups. I think we have a pretty good chance at it, the way everybody talks about it. We want to do good and win. For myself I want to do the best I can and I want to earn myself a college scholarship.
