In-Depth Interview
February 4, 1997

Sarah: Your line has been pretty hot lately. Are you pleased with that?

Mike Hanson: Yeah, we just gotta start winning some more.

Sarah: Yes, that would help, so how old were you when you started?

M. Hanson: I started playing when I was about four. I got into it because I had older brothers that played.

Sarah: So that was the reason you got into it, your older brothers?

Hanson: Yes, I guess so.

Sarah
: Did you ever play any other position than your current one?

Hanson: Forward, center, and wing.

Sarah: Which did you like better?

Hanson: Probably center, I enjoyed that.

Sarah:
What about your past teams? Half the season you played in Sioux City last year, but before that?...

Hanson:
Yeah, I played in Sioux City last year, it was fun there. I got traded for Erik Day and that's why I ended up here.

Sarah:
And before that, before Sioux City?

Hanson:
I'm from Minot North Dakota and I played high school hockey up there. That was a good time.

Sarah:
Do you have a favorite hockey player?

Hanson:
I suppose Wayne Gretzky, huh? Isn't he everyone's?

Sarah:
Not mine.

Hanson:
Not yours? Who's yours?

Sarah:
Chris Chelios and Sergei Federov.

Hanson:
You should be a Gretzky fan, everyone's a Gretzky fan!

Sarah:
What else do you like to do besides hockey?

Hanson:
I like to work out I guess. I play softball in the summer, that's fun. I really like to watch TV too.

Sarah:
Can you remember your most embarrassing moment?

Hanson:
Not right now, but I bet I've had quite a few. I guess I just don't think it's embarrassing when I do it.

Sarah:
What can't you imagine living without?

Hanson:
I suppose money, uh?

Sarah:
Goals for your future?

Hanson:
One of my biggest goals is to be happy and healthy. That's all I can ask for.

Sarah:
What would the fans be surprised to know about you?

Hanson:
Do you know what's kinda surprising that nobody would really know about me? I'm living with the Adamson's and they've been housing for five years and I'm the only player to come at the beginning of the season and make it past the trading deadline. They usually go through two or three players and I'm the only one to make it. I'm the first player to make it that far, I haven't made the whole season yet but... I thought it was kind of interesting.
