In-Depth Interview
March 4, 1997

Sarah: Was it disappointing to be out, with your injury, for so long knowing you were ranked as the #1 goalie?

Jayme Platt: Yeah, it was pretty frustrating it was the first time I'd ever been hurt. It was tough to deal with, but the team was winning so I guess that made it a little bit easier. It was definitely really frustrating, both from a personal stand point and for the team too.

Sarah: How did it feel to be the #1 goalie?

J. Platt: It was early in the year so...It's good to have good numbers, but the only thing that really matters is wins and losses. Numbers are nice, but the only thing that matters is wins and losses.

Sarah: So it didn't make a big difference to you?

Platt: Not a huge difference no, you like to keep your numbers down, but it's not the end of the world if they're up.

Sarah: What influenced you to start playing hockey?

Platt: I went and watched the major junior team in Seattle when I was about four, so I started when I was five.

Sarah: Have you always been a goalie?

Platt: Ever since my second year, I played it once in my first year and started full time my second year.

Sarah: So you must have loved it then...

Platt: Yeah.

Sarah: Before the Bucs where did you play?

Platt: I played amateur hockey in Seattle and two years of midget's before coming out here.

Sarah: Do you have a favorite hockey team?

Platt: Probably the Devils.

Sarah: What about a favorite hockey player?

Platt: Martin Brodeur.

Sarah: What else do you like to do besides hockey?

Platt: Outdoor stuff like camping and things like that. I like cars and music. Not too much.

Sarah: What kind of cars?

Platt: Oh, anything.

Sarah: Do you like the way they look or do you like to work on them?

Platt: No I don't know too much about them. I just like to look at them. I don't know too much about how the cars work, the only thing I know is how to put the gas in them and drive them.

Sarah: Do you have a favorite car?

Platt: Probably the Mercedes 500 SL.

Sarah: What's your most embarrassing moment?

Platt: One time when I was in midget's we were playing up in a tournament in Saskatchewan. We were in a play off game in the tournament. We were doing okay, I was playing really well, and then I gave up a goal from the top of the circles from the far end. I would say that's probably my most embarrassing moment, as far as hockey.

Sarah: Do you have a nickname?

Platt: Platter.

Sarah: Do you have any advice for younger goalies?

Platt: Just stop the puck I'm not sure, it's tough when you're young because you give up quite a few goals, but stick with it.

Sarah: What are your goals or plans for the future?

Platt: Hopefully to move on to college and get a scholarship. Ultimately to make it to the NHL, I guess as a hockey player that's everyone's goal.

Sarah: What would the fans be surprised to know about you?

Platt: That I work at Moss Distributing.
